Ukraine: Sharp increase of wholesale banana prices

Wholesale bananas have become significantly more expensive in the Ukrainian markets, as reported by analysts of "APK-Inform": vegetables and fruits, citing daily monitoring data.

Thus, at the "Dubovo" market, in Khmelnytsky, bananas cost 32-36 UAH/kg (1.09-1.23 Euro/kg), while a week earlier the fruit's price stood at 30 UAH/kg (1.02 Euro/kg).

Meanwhile, at the "Shuvar" market, in Lviv, the price for this product rose by 17-27%, with transactions currently made for prices no lower than 33-34 UAH/kg (1.12-1.16 Euro/kg).

Lastly, at the "Capital" market in Kiev, bananas can be purchased in bulk for 30-40 UAH/kg (1.02-1.36 Euro/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the batch. At the end of the last working week, banana prices here did not exceed 35 UAH/kg (1.19 Euro/kg).

According to sellers, the upward price trend in this segment is dictated by the growing cost of bananas because of a rise in prices in Ecuador.

At the moment, customers in Ukrainian wholesale markets are paying an average of 15% more for the fruit than in late May of the previous year.
