Start-Up in Switzerland: Fighting Food Waste with Fruit and Veg

Fruit and vegetables that look a little out of the ordinary will be sold in the Bernese "gmüesgarte" [vegetable garden] in the future, rather than being thrown away. The store is to open this summer and the conversion of the premises is to be financed via crowdfunding.

Any remaining food products are purchased from partner farms and stored in the cellar venue in Bern. The "gmüesgarte" is thought to help against food waste.

The project started by Franziska Güder, Geo Taglioni, Jan Henseleit and Simon Weidmann, the founders of the neighbouring Äss-Bar [Eat Bar]. Here baked goods, which otherwise would have gone to waste, are sold the next day.

20,000 Swiss Francs are needed for the reconstruction of the grounds at Marktgasse, which are to be collected via crowdfunding.
