UK: Woman finds world's most venomous spider in Asda bananas

Gemma Price got the shock of her life after being swarmed over by the spiderlings of one of the most venomous species in the world which burst out of an Asda banana. The 30-year-old, from Durham, said she was peeling the fruit at home on Tuesday, last week, when the critters scuttled out.

After contacting the police she was advised to leave the property with her seven-month old son Leo. The spiders were later identified as Brazilian wandering spiders whose bite can kill an adult human in hours.

“As I peeled the banana a white egg sac, which I hadn't noticed before, broke and hundreds of little spiders were crawling on my hands and arms and down my pyjamas."

“I quickly picked up my son and called 999. The operator asked if we had been bitten and when I said no, I was told to evacuate the property with my baby immediately and not go to back.”

Gemma said Asda offered her a £50 voucher to purchase baby milk and pyjamas.
