Spanish firms adapting to new consumption habits

New consumption habits, new family models, different lifestyles, etc. are changing the preferences of consumers in other countries. It is no accident, therefore, that large retailers are offering trays with two small pieces of cauliflower, broccoli, etc., as these are better adapted to the needs of their customers.

"These changes have made us decide to enter this segment of the market that until now was not important for us," affirms Daniel Blázquez Simón, manager of Silvana Fruits. So far, this Navarre company focused only on larger sizes (calibres 6 and 8, mainly), somehow narrowing its market. "Now we are able to reach more customers because we are opening the market this way," explains Blázquez.

For now, Silvana Fruits has these formats in the test stage, as they want to make sure that they offer exactly what the international market demands in terms of the desired piece sizes. "We have shipped our products in twin tray packs to our current national and international customers, as well as to potential clients from countries where we are interested in entering the market, so that we can ask them what they think," states Blázquez. The pieces that are being used are those that weigh between 250 and 500 grams and they will make various combinations with broccoli, romanesco and different varieties of coloured cauliflower. "We intend to meet the demands of those customers who seek the same quality that we offer in larger sizes, but also in these new formats," affirms the representative of Silvana Fruits.

As for the final cost, although the handling and packaging could increase the price, it is true that more pieces fit per box and pallet, which should compensate at the time of transportation. "We believe that we will be able to continue offering our products and services at a competitive price, based on the studies we have carried out before the launch," assures Blázquez.
