Gerard Sevenhuijsen, Tuindersbelang:

“Red cabbage prices shooting up, white cabbage selling nicely”

“It’s been going well the past few days,” says Gerard Sevenhuijsen from Tuindersbelang in Warmenhuizen about the market for white cabbage. It’s one of the most important outdoor export products of the Netherlands, and growers always have to wait and see if there will be any demand for it. Last week, demand started recovering. “From all European countries, and also from overseas,” Gerard says. “They’re selling well. Quality is still good, and prices are between 18 and 25 cents.”

According to Gerard, reports about red cabbage are ‘excellent.’ “Prices are shooting up.” That is the result of scarcity on the market. Last Friday, prices were around 50 cents. Gerard doesn’t want to make any predictions for the coming week. “The market responds quite extremely.” Gerard is also positive about the quality of red cabbage. “It’s fine, even better than that of this time last year.”
