Algerian quota for banana imports opens

The quantitative quota for banana imports in Algeria has opened from 11 to 14 March for the first half of 2017, the ministry of Trade told APS.

This quota of 90,000 tons is divided into two sections of 45,000 tons each, covering the first two quarters of 2017, said the source.

In this regard, the minister invited economic operators, who satisfy the conditions required by the current legislation and who meet the criteria set by the specifications, to apply for an import license for fresh bananas by depositing it to the trade directorate of the territorially competent province.

Imported quantities of bananas in 2016 reached 201,320 tons for an amount of USD142.3 million against 247,027 tons for USD182.2 million in 2015.
