Increase in Swiss mushroom production

The Swiss mushroom market is growing. The VSP members were able to increase the mushroom production in 2016 by 2.9% compared to last year. This accounts for a 168 metric tonne growth, around 10 metric tonnes behind the increased import growth (176 metric tonnes/ 7.2%). For the import value, the customs statistics for 2015 and 2016 remain unchanged, 3.10 Swiss francs per kilogram. (2010: Fr.4.--).  In addition to the revaluation of the Swiss franc, the mushroom prices in the EU also declined.

With selected mushrooms, the production volume for Shiitake came to a good 78 metric tonnes, similar to the previous year. There was a 108 metric tonne production of oyster mushrooms (18.7% reduction). King oyster mushrooms and other edible mushrooms amounted to 78 metric tonnes which was an increase of 17.5%. Producers and associations are committed to a sustainable, economical and high-quality Swiss mushroom production.
