Ukraine: Bananas 1.5 times cheaper than a year ago
In most wholesale markets in Ukraine there is a downward trend in banana prices, as revealed by the daily monitoring of "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits". Analysts have noted that the fruit is already an average of 1.5 times cheaper for consumers than in early February 2016
From the beginning of this week, traders on the Ukrainian wholesale market have reduced the price of their bananas by 5-10%. Shipments of the fruit on the Lviv wholesale market go on sale for 23-24 UAH/kg (0.79-0.83 Euro/kg), which is on average 40% less than in the same period last year.
In Kiev, it is currently possible to buy bananas in bulk for 22-23 UAH/kg (0.76-0.79 Euro/kg); the fruit's price in the market of the Ukrainian capital has fallen by 40-43% compared to a year ago.
The situation is similar in the Khmelnitsky region, where bananas are available in the wholesale market for prices ranging between 22 and 25 UAH/kg (0.76-0.86 Euro/kg), depending on the quality; also a considerable drop compared to last year.
