Spain: Bananas reach their highest price at origin

The price at origin of bananas in the third week of the year (between 16 and 22 January) stood at 61.69 Euro/100 kg, which is the highest since November 2015 and almost double (+92.12%) those reached in the same week of 2016 (32.11 Euro/100 kg). This information has been included in the latest report on national average prices at origin, released by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (Mapama).

Canary bananas started 2017 with an average price at origin of 36.48 Euro/100 kg; a figure that increased in the second week to 56.87 Euro/100 kg, so the average price in the third week of the year has increased by 8.47% compared to the previous one.

In 2016, the fruit's price at origin oscillated from 52.19 Euro/100 kg (week 46) to 25.45 Euro/100 kg (week 29). In 2015, the highest price was 76.19 Euro/100 kg (week 46) and the lowest 20.81 Euro/100 kg (weeks 31 and 32).
