"We are making the first Colombian soursop shipments to Europe"

Colombian soursop has started gaining a good reputation in the international market and will soon become available in Europe for the first time. Last year, the company Cool Tropy was founded with the mission of supplying exotic fruits to the world, and accepted the challenge of introducing soursop to the Old Continent. Because of its medicinal properties against cancer, it has a great chance of positioning itself as a "superfruit".

With 50 hectares devoted exclusively to the cultivation of this fruit, they have the capacity to start supplying more than one tonne per week. "We are in the trial period, but we believe that the product will be widely accepted by consumers. Colombia has the climatic conditions to produce soursop all year round, which will facilitate its marketing," affirmed Fabio Usai, General Manager of Cool Tropy.

The first shipments have already been made to Italy, and the fruit's promotion is already yielding its first results. "For now, weekly shipments are being made by air to a customer in Italy, which is allowing us to promote our product. As the months go by, we are confident we'll be able to enter other neighbouring countries."

While for many Latin American countries the change of US government is a cause for concern, for the Colombian company it could even have a positive impact and boost international trade. "We believe that Trump's policies could benefit Colombia, since much of its reforms could cause difficulties to Mexican fruit producers. To this we should add that, compared to other soursop producers, Colombia is relatively close to the United States," concluded the spokesperson.
