Farmers in India given grant to grow custard apples

To aid farmers with marginal land holdings, the state government has decided to give a group of 250 farmers a grant to grow custard apples in Buldhana.

The decision to form a farmer led company was taken on Tuesday by agriculture minister, Pandurang Fundkar.

He said that a company will be set up after grouping farmers and 1,000 hectares of land will given to them to cultivate custard apples. The government will give subsidies for the cultivation and also help in marketing their produce in national as well as international markets.

"Currently the area under custard Apple is close of 7,000 hectares and since they fetch a good price in the national markets we have decided to promote them," said Fundkar. He also said that Maharashtra is the topmost producers of custard apples in the country.
