Expoalimentaria to exceed US$ 800 million in sales

The eighth edition of the Expoalimentaria fair, to be held in Lima from 28th to 30th September, estimates that sales are set to exceed US$ 800 million, said John Hartley, vice president of the Exporters Association (ADEX). 

The most important food platform in Latin America was presented today, 9 September, at a press conference that was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RR.EE.) and the International Development Bank (IDB).



Hartley declared: "These are indicators that demonstrate the potential of the food supply of our country. However, the challenge is great and we will work to continue positioning ourselves as a reliable world supplier". 

Edgar Vasquez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, and Jorge Luis Montenegro, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Irrigation, also attended the conference. Other representatives who were at the presentation, included Silvia Alfaro, General Director General of Economic Promotion of RR.EE.; Viviana Caro, Head of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Peru; Jorge Urbina, Central Export Manager of ADEX and various entrepreneurs.



Growth of 227%
The vice president of ADEX reported that the world imported food worth US$ 1.2 billion the last year and Peru is working to offer quality, organic and certificated products that are different to other competitors. “In the last 10 years, Peruvian food exports increased from US$ 1.631 million (in 2006) to US$ 5.338 million (in 2015), representing an increase of 227%”, he said.

Hartley added that, in that same period, the number of consignments increased from 591 to 668, demonstrating the determination of Peruvian entrepreneurs to diversify and provide greater value for Peruvian products.

He explains that the fair aims to promote trade between international suppliers and buyers and to continue positioning the Peruvian supply in the world market. This year it will bring together more than 650 companies from five continents in an area of ​​23,400 square meters.



At Expoalimentaria, not only will exhibitors from various regions of Peru be presented, but also representatives of other countries, such as Turkey, Brazil, South Africa, Netherlands, Argentina, Spain, Ecuador, Denmark, Chile, Italy, Guatemala, Japan, Bolivia, Indonesia, Poland and India, which will exhibit their range of goods and services to exporters.

International buyers
Representatives of supermarkets, retailers, wholesalers, importers, traders and food suppliers, among others will arrive in Peru. Including: Eastland Food Corporation, International Fruit Company, Atlanta Corporation and Samba (USA), JSC Tander (Russia) Tesco PLC (UK), Kaf Group and Jaipur Star General (UAE), FreshGold (South Africa), Casino (France) Unisuper (Guatemala), Cencosud (Chile) and our competitor 
(Ecuador).

Also, Kanematsu Corporation and Ito-Yokado Co. from Japan; Flavours and Colours EJC S.A.S. and La Gran Colombia; and Casa Fiesta and Rosa, Nardelli, Manetti, Koch, Imperatriz, Hippo, Central Rede Top, Angeloni, 
Giacossi and Bistek supermarkets from Brazil.

Expoalimentaria will present the LAC Flavours Business Conference, organised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Connect Americas, in which exporting companies and buyers from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia are participating.

The fair is organized by ADEX and PromPerú, supported by the Ministry of Production (Produce), Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RR.EE.).
