The summer hasn't been that bad for the mushroom market. "Everyone has produced slightly less so demand and supply of white mushrooms were in good balance. Where in other years there were sometimes lower prices or you would have to turn to the industry, that hasn't been the case this year," says sales manager Diederick Knijnenburg of Oakfield Mushrooms.
"Prices of the middle sorting of white mushrooms is at a level of around 1.50 Euro. The sales of chestnut mushrooms were more extreme this summer. At times they were hard to sell, but the in last three weeks good prices have been made for the chestnut mushrooms as well," says Diederick.
Oakfield Mushrooms mainly focus on the French, Belgian and Dutch market. "In particular on the French, where consumers in our experience will pay slightly more for the higher-end mushrooms. In the Netherlands and Germany they still buy based on price."
