Expoalimentaria 28th to 30th Sept, Lima

High demand for Peruvian food from international food chains

Peruvian food exportation between January and May this year reached 1999 million dollars. Because of this high potential, agents of big business groups, supermarkets, retailers, wholesalers, importers, traders and food providers will arrive to Lima to explore the offer that will be exhibited at the Expoalimentaria, the main food platform of Latin America, that will be held from 28th to 30th September, indicated the Association of Exporters of Peru (Adex).

Statistics from the Guild Exporter report that the agriculture, livestock and agro industry sector was the most demanded with 1646 million dollars, and the fishery was second with 353.2 million dollars. The most demanded products were grapes, avocados, mangos, asparagus, bananas, pota fish and squids, food for animals, cacao beans, shrimp tails.

The markets that purchased the most were the United Stated of America that concentrated 27.9% of the total exportation, the Netherlands, Spain, Ecuador, United Kingdom, China, Colombia, and others.

The Guild Exporter professional association indicated that these food chains have confirmed their participaton: Walmart (USA), Tesco PLC (United Kingdom), Geant Hypermarket (United Arab Emirates), Spar-Freshline (South Africa), Casino (France), Unisuper (Guatemala), Cencosud (Chile) y El Competidor (Ecuador).

These organizations will also attend the fair: Kanematsu Corporation and ITO-Yokado Co from Japan; Sabores y Colores EJC S.A.S. y La Gran Colombia from Colombia; Super 99, Rey Supermarkets, Romero Supermarkets, Machetazo y Super Extra from Panamá; y Casa Fiesta y Rosa Supermarkets, Nardelli, Manetti, Koch, Imperatriz, Hippo, Central Rede Top, Angeloni, Giacossi y Bistek from Brazil.

International requests
According to ADEX, prior to the fair, some purchasers have already shown interest in some products. Russian businessmen are interested in purchasing avocado, asparagus, mango, carrots; Italian ones want fresh peach, strawberry, melon, spinach, grapes, kiwi, apple, tomato, citrus; German ones would like pineapple and mango in syrup, camu camu powder, tuna; and Belgian ones want cacao.

Also, purchasers from the United States are interested in semi-processed fresh fruits, quinoa, squid, octopus, peppers, blueberries, mangoes; China has expressed an interest in grapes and avocados; South Africa in frozen papaya, frozen passion fruit juice, lucuma pulp, mango and grapes, among others.

Expoalimentaria also introduces the new Performing LAC Flavors Business Roundtable. It is one of the most important Food industry Business Meetings in the region that brings together exporters and 
purchasers from North, Central and South America; the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. This year the eighth edition will be held in Lima, in the framework of the fair. Participation is reserved for users who register at ConnectAmericas.

According to Guild Exporter, the 2015 edition of the Expoalimentaria Fair was attended by more than 43,600 visitors, among which were 3,200 international visitors. Also, it introduced more than 1,640 products, that were exhibited in 32 categories, and developed more than 500 business roundtables, generating more than 800 million dollars of negotiated amount.
