In July, a sweet potato food truck, all the way from North Carolina, traveled across Germany feeding people at festivals in cities like Berlin, Hamburg, Augsburg, and others.
The food truck is the result of a partnership between the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' International Marketing department and the N.C. SweetPotato Commission.
One of the food truck members says sweet potato fries were very popular with their customers, and in one country the truck had a long line for almost three hours.
The organizers of the program hope to introduce sweet potatoes to customers abroad and to increase the demand for North Carolina’s home-grown produce.
North Carolina is the leader in the U.S. in sweet potato production.
The department’s marketing staff hopes to expand this program in the United Kingdom, France, and Scandinavia as well.
