German Edible Mushroom Growers Association

German mushroom production clearly increased in 2015

According to recent figures of the German Edible Mushroom Growers Association (Bundes Deutscher Champignon- und Kulturpilzanbauer), the BDC, a total of 70,500 metric tons of edible mushrooms were produced in 2015. A clear increase compared to the 66,500 metric tons of the previous year. Of the 70,500 metric tons 68,000 metric tons were the common button mushrooms. 7,000 metric tons of those button mushrooms were used in processed food. The remaining 2,500 metric tons of mushrooms are the more exotic varieties.

These numbers differ from the numbers in a recent publication of the German Federal Statistical Office. In that publication 62,600 metric tons of edible mushrooms is mentioned. The difference occurred due to the exclusion of smaller companies by the German Federal Statistical Office.
