Romania: Veg consumption was down in 2015
In comparison with 2014, Romanians consumed less vegetables last year.
The average Romanian consumed 7.55 kg of vegetables and canned vegetables monthly, dropping by 0.17 kg against the previous year, a publication of the National Institute for Statistics (INS) said.
The consumption of vegetables depends on the size and composition of the household.
The highest consumption was recorded in households made up of one person (11.46 kg/person) and households without children (8.40 kg/person) and the lowest in households with 4 or several children (4.59 kg/person) and in those made up of 6 or several people (5.43 kg/person), INS informs.
According to the institution, the consumption of fruits is relatively low, on the whole, for all kinds of households, the average monthly consumption for one person being 3.69 kg in 2015 and 3.57 kg in 2014.
‘Significant differences are seen between households grouped according to their size, in households made up of one person who consumes 5.56 kg/person (5.19 kg/person in 2014) of fruits monthly, this is more than double against the average consumption of the households with 6 and more people (2.09 kg/person in 2014 and 2.41 kg/person in 2015) the quoted source said.
