Russia: Dixy Group takes note of the 'freshness trend'

Russia's DIXY Group Divisions have analyzed customers’ seasonal preferences since the beginning of summer. Focusing on the summer trend in the menu of the customers, the divisions offer a wide refreshing assortment - fresh berries, vegetables, fruits, summer ready-to-eat dishes – which enjoy increasing popularity with customers due to the reasonable price policy. Compared with last year, turnover of sweet cherry at neighborhood stores has grown fourfold, of fresh strawberry in
Victoria supermarkets – by 50%.

Victoria chain analysts also note a growth in the turnover of mushrooms – by 50% – and for fresh pumpkin: compared to the beginning of last summer, the growth in the turnover of the vegetable has doubled. The chain’s own production chefs have also prepared fresh novelties – sausage for summer barbecue, vegetable salads with light dressings, lemonades, and freshly squeezed juices. During the first month of summer turnover of skewers of vegetables increased by 66%, sandwiches - 20%, pork kebab -two and a half times.

Megamart compact hypermarkets regularly offer fresh berries, fruit and vegetables for the Product of the Week promotion at up to 50% discount. Compared with the beginning of the summer last year berries demand
increased this June by 46%, fresh vegetables - about 20%. Ice-cream turnover exceeded last June’s values by 17%, while the share of fruit sorbet decreased in favor of creamy treats. Own production assortment now features more summer dishes and drinks – customers are offered twelve kinds of vegetable salads and five berry drinks. The most popular among them is cowberry mors.

On a like-for-like basis, the first month of summer at DIXY stores produced a growth in the sales of seasonal berries, fruit, and potherbs category. In terms of quantity, turnover of sweet cherry and strawberry has grown four times, peaches by 40%, green onions, dill, and leaf lettuce by 50%. In response to growing demand, the stores offer fresh fruit and vegetables at the best price in any season.
