China: Spinach price surges

As of the beginning of July, the rainy season affected the growth and picking of green vegetables, and this caused later the surge in the price of various green vegetables, among which the price of spinach increased the most. Within only half a month, its price has increased over 45%, and in certain regions in the South, the increase goes up to 80%.

According to the statistics data, the price of spinach is now between 3.5-4 Yuan per kilo, while its original price half a month ago remained only 3 Yuan per kilo. Besides the weather factor, the long distance transport cost caused by the rainy weather also adds up for this price surge.

Despite the fact that spinach price has surged, it can still not compensate for the loss that the bad weather brings to the vegetable growers. To reduce the extra cost, the growers can only sell the spinach in their local markets.
