Kenyan farmers urged to grow more banana

Banana farmers in Kisii county Kenya, are being urged to produce more bananas in light of increasing market demand.

Speaking to farmers at Kiogoro market, One Acre Fund representative from the county, Mrs Margaret Momanyi, said demand for the produce has been growing rapidly in recent times and hence the farmers need to grow more, so as to boost the region's economy.

Momanyi also added that farmers should be careful not to be used by middlemen who are there to split the prices among themselves.

She said since the banana factory has been set up in the county, the farmers need to take advantage of the industry to benefit from the useful crop.

She urged the farmers that besides taking bananas as their food crop, they should regard it as their cash crop since the market is booming.
