Regional Asparagus Queen 2016/2017 crowned

Who better to spread the joy and anticipation of the soon to begin asparagus season than the Asparagus Queen herself? And the crowning of the new Asparagus Queen is one of the preparations for the start of the new season.

Anna Hennicke is the new Asparagus Queen 2016/2017 for the Franken region in South Germany

Anna Hennicke is the new Asparagus Queen for the Franken region in South Germany for 2016 and 2017. She is the daughter of vegetable farmer Peter Hennicke in Nürnberg, 23 years old and studies at an agricultural college in Bavaria. Her parents’ farm produces, in addition to asparagus, potatoes, rhubarb and cucumbers. The produce is sold in the farm shop. And the new Asparagus Queen has been helping with the cultivation of asparagus on the farm since her early childhood. She knows the process from seedling through harvest to sales like the back of her hand.

During a festive ceremony the previous Asparagus Queen Miriam Adel crowned Anna Hennicke as the current reigning queen. As Asparagus Queen for the Franken region Anna Hennicke will fulfil an important public task. During asparagus season openings, asparagus markets, festivals and fairs she will present the asparagus and answer consumer questions about asparagus.

Anna prefers her asparagus classically prepared with local sausages and potatoes. The recipe, further information about the queen, the farmers’ association and locations where to buy local asparagus is available at: www.spargel-franken.de

Since 1998 an Asparagus Queen has been chosen to fulfil the function for two years. The asparagus from the Nuremberg region was registered as a protected geographical indication in the EU in March 2013.
