Russian demand for Chinese fruit grows, vegetable imports decrease
In 2015, 390,800 tons of fruit and vegetables worth $ 205 million were exported from China to Russia through the Manchuria border crossing point- the largest land border crossing point on the Sino-Russian border.
Last year, through the Manchuria border, China exported 159,700 tons of fruit to Russia worth $102 million. This proved to be respectively 14.51% and 30.02% more than in 2014. Vegetables exported to Russia amounted to 231.1 tons, worth $ 103 million, which is a fall of 12.11% and 0.04%, respectively.
According to the analysis of specialists, in 2015, due to a good harvest, the purchasing prices for different kinds of fruits in China decreased significantly, which allowed them to strengthen their price advantage on the Russian market. Through the Manchuria border, exports of tangerines, peaches, pomelos, lemons and other fruits to Russia significantly increased.
Experts believe that in the past year, Russia has made important efforts to develop their own agriculture, and have thus somewhat decreased their dependence on imported vegetables. Imports of potatoes and onions declined, and it has contributed to a reduction in Chinese vegetable exports to the country.
