Hans Steltenpool, Dutch Carrot Group:

"Netherlands: "Pretty good carrot prices"

Prices for carrots are pretty good for the time of year. "At the grower, 14-17 cents is paid for good carrots. There is optimism, but of course it remains to be seen whether that will come true," says Hans Steltenpool of Dutch Carrot Group, which focuses on cultivation, refrigeration, processing and sales of carrots. "After a week or two, harvesting will be done, and then we'll have to wait for the big buyers in Europe."

The seller says quality and yields are reasonable. "A lot better than last year, and there is also less mouse damage. And that's always good for trade of course, because good carrots just simply sell better than bad carrots. In Eastern Europe, there are also reportedly low amounts of carrots. The price is also high in Poland, and that's not due to the high supply, but everything still needs to get going."
