High expectations for Macfrut 2015

Yesterday was the first day of the Italian fruit and veg fair Macfrut in Rimini. Today and tomorrow, this event will continue in the Rimini Expo Center. The entire fruit and veg chain is present at the 32nd edition, with over 1,000 exhibitors. The fair was opened yesterday by the minister of Agriculture. A large proportion of the exhibitors come from Italy and were pleased with the number and quality of visitors on the first day. Non-Italian exhibitors see a lot of export opportunities in Italy thanks to the high consumption of fruit and vegetables.

The deputy minister of Agriculture, the mayor of Rimini and of course the management of Fiera Rimini and Cesena Fiera were present during the opening. There was a short look back on last year’s successful edition, and for this year the expectations are even higher.

Because the trade show is taking place at a different location for the first time, and the halls are bigger, it is difficult to estimate whether the first day was busier than last year. The figures will show on Friday. Earlier, the organization said they’re
reckoning with around 40,000 visitors.

Competition with Fruit Logistica
The goal is for Macfrut to become more and more international. One in five exhibitors comes from abroad. During the opening, it was said that they want to compete with Fruit Logistica. Those are very high expectations, of course, and that still is a long way off. New countries present include Mexico and Ecuador. Honorary guest this year is the Dominican Republic.

On Friday, September 25, the Macfrut Innovation Award will be awarded. Next week we will publish a photo report of Macfrut, as well as various articles on exhibitors.
