Fresh picked mushrooms, supplied direct from farm

Freshness and quality are essential in the fresh produce and also in the mushroom industry. Oakfield Champignons is also focussed on these two elements by selling their home grown mushrooms directly to customers in the retail and food service all over the world. "Buying directly from the grower/producer is essential for quality and this is getting more commonplace amongst retailers," says Diederick Knijnenburg from Oakfield Champignons.

"Retail and Foodservice are buying more and more directly from the growers, increasing the turnover on one site and the customer demands on the other, as well as maximum freshness and a more consistent quality." Oakfield Champignons produces around 100 tons of mushrooms per week. All are grown in their own farm.

Complete range of mushrooms
Oakfield Champignons grows the complete range of mushrooms, such as white mushrooms, brown or chestnut mushrooms, portabella’s, flats, oyster mushrooms, shii-take and Eryngii. All these different mushroom varieties are available as a conventional or organic product. "The ideal aim is to grow all the mushrooms ourselves, however this is not completely possible, take for instance the wild mushrooms or forest mushrooms that cannot be cultivated and only be found in nature. To be able to meet the demands of all our customers we also have these wild varieties in our product range."

Packhouse
"In our modern packhouse we can package the mushrooms into various containers to suit the client’s needs. We have punnets varying from 100 g up to 1 kg, with a lid or film. We have plastic trays, cardboard boxes, IFCO, Chep and many other types of packaging. The packing station is located on our farm so the mushrooms do not have to “travel” needlessly from the growing rooms to the packing facility."

In the whole production process, Oakfield Mushrooms is focussing on the demand of the client. "We produce ‘on demand’, not only in terms of quantity and packaging but also in regard to quality. This way our clients are assured of a constant product at all times."
