Table grapes from Chile dominate - Tomato sales influenced by weather

Table grapes
Chile dominated the market with Thompson Seedless, Crimson Seedless and Alphonse Lavallée grapes. South Africa mostly exported Crimson Seedless while India only contributed Thompson Seedless to the range. The quality of these batches decreased and sometimes left something to be desired. Nevertheless, for batches with a convincing quality the prices could be raised slightly. New in the range were the Early Sweet grapes from Israel and Egypt. The grapes were sour and small, so they hardly generated attention. The Italian Blackmagic and Victoria grapes arrived in Munich on Thursday, they immediately took their place in the higher price segment.

Tomatoes
An increasing amount of goods arrived on the market, in particular, the offer of Belgian and the Dutch tomatoes increased. The low temperatures often decreased interest to the extent that sales left much to be desired in many cases. This caused a surplus. Price reductions could ease the situation. Although the offer of domestically grown tomatoes grew, the amounts were significantly more manageable. This caused the prices for this product to remain constant; it only fell marginally in various occasions. Italian vine tomatoes only reached the market in small amounts and therefore only sporadically increased the prices.

Apples
The European apples rapidly lost their position on the market, imports from overseas gained prominence. The overall diminished turnover caused almost unavoidable price reductions.

Pears
The usual low demand for this time of season could be met without difficulty, and there were no significant changes in the prices.

Strawberries
German strawberries clearly dominated the market. They arrived in large quantities this combined with a rather weak demand price reductions were inevitable.

Kiwis
Kiwis imported from New Zealand dominate the trade; and the supply keeps expanding. Italian, French and Greek kiwis only played a small role.

Lemons
Only the Spanish Verna lemon was available. And supply that was not sufficient to meet the demand caused rising prices on all markets.

Bananas
The increasing desire for summer fruit decreased the demand for bananas. Therefore traders kept the banana supply low.

Cauliflower
Normally sales ought to be good at these temperatures, but the business was not thriving.

Salad
Iceberg lettuce dominated Germany. The high demands could rarely influence the price due to widespread availability.

Cucumbers
Domestic cucumbers dominated the uneventful trade. The increased supplies gradually caused pressure on the sales.

Sweet peppers
The Dutch supply dominated the business. Due to a vast supply the prices of yellow and red peppers decreased considerably.

Asparagus
After the satisfactory sale on Pentecost weekend the interest almost abruptly dropped. The relatively cool temperatures were convenient, because they slowed the supply down.

Onions
Domestic grown onions are almost completely unavailable at the market. Extensive imports from New Zealand were able to fulfil the demand.
