Germany: asparagus harvest slowly gets going

In the German municipality of Lower Saxony the first asparagus from the open ground were harvested last Friday, from Hoyerhagen. This was reported by Dietrich Paul, president for the union of asparagus growers from Lower Saxony. This is the slow start to asparagus harvest from open ground in Germany.

As there are still few asparagus in Germany, they are still very expensive. But after Easter the prices will decrease, says Rolf Meinhardt, president of the German union 'Spargel Südhessen'.
At the weekend after Easter people in Germany expect noticeably better weather and with it, larger amounts of asparagus. The kilo price was still around 15 Euro during Easter.
