Germany: organic market grows by almost 5 percent

The organic market in Germany has grown even more in 2014, reports the Swiss website Bauernzeitung.ch. The 'Bund für Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft' (BÖLW) presumes that the turnover made with organic food and drink increased, by 4.8% compared to 2013, to 7.91 billion Euro.

The organic agricultural area was 1089 million hectares in 2014 according to estimates by the BÖLW. This is 2.7% larger than the year before. The organic share for the total agricultural share in Germany was 6.5%. The number of organic companies grew by 2.9% to 29,937.
