The evolution of the world population is going somewhat different than what was anticipated by the UN. Until a few years ago, estimates were for about 9 billion people in 2070 and 8.4 billion in 2100.
It seems though that things are not exactly going as expected, as the current world population is already at 7.2 billion people.
The most recent UN studies have therefore revised their estimates - 9.6 billion people by 2050 and 10.9 billion by 2100.

The biggest increase will take place in Africa, due to the higher fertility rates and the decrease of deaths caused by AIDS and other illnesses.
As regards Asia, the growth should be limited and Latin America's growth rate is even expected to decrease.
The biggest problem is definitely going to be food and nutrition - how will the world feed all these people?
