US to get a blast of winter weather this week

The US in for a blast of wintery weather during the next two weeks. According to forecasts from the National Weather Center a strong area of low pressure is forecast to persist across eastern North America, with high pressure centered near the West Coast. A strong high, originating from northern Canada, is expected to bring arctic temperatures to the east-central U.S. next week. An extremely strong low is expected to move into the Bering Sea by Sunday and remain nearly stationary over the western Aleutians into the middle of next week.

Temperature much below the average for this time of year will spread over the southeast across much of the central and eastern U.S., Monday to Thursday next week. Heavy snow will fall on parts of the Northern Rockies at the beginning of the week. Temperatures are likely to remain below freezing for multiple days across the northern Great Plains and upper Mississippi Valley beginning on Monday. Freezing temperatures may affect the southern Texas Panhandle during the middle part of next week, with teens as far south as northeast Colorado and northern Kansas.

Typhoon Nuri, currently tracking east of Japan, is expected to recurve and become entrained within the mid-latitude flow across the North Pacific and enter the Bering Sea later this week as a powerful extra-tropical storm.
