Spain: Ministry of Agriculture appreciates EU for making removal of peaches and nectarines more flexible

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama) is in favour of the decision taken by the European Commission to make the implementation of the 29.7 million Euro aid for the withdrawal of peaches and nectarines, as a result of the Russian embargo, more flexible.

The Magrama recalled, via a statement, Spain's role in getting the withdrawal of peaches and nectarines to destinations other than the free distribution incorporated into the Rules of the Commission.

According to Magrama, Spain accomplished making the conditions for the withdrawal of free distribution peaches and nectarines equal among all producers, whether they are members or non-members of producer organizations.

This ability to proceed with the withdrawal to other destinations was one of the requests from the industry, "which will have a very positive impact on the market", and will relieve distribution through charities.

In this regard, the Ministry stated that a program to withdraw peaches and nectarines for processing and free distribution promoted by the Ministry is already underway.

The Regulation published for peaches and nectarines includes promotion measures endowed with three million Euro, of which Spain will receive a third part, so that producer organizations carry out different actions.

Moreover, the European Commission also discussed exceptional measures for other products that were also affected by the veto of the Russian Federation, such as the 125 million Euro aid announced last Monday that will allow for withdrawals and actions for green harvesting and non-harvest.

The Commission committed to study the Spanish request of extending the list of products that qualified for support measures.

These initiatives, they announced, would be complemented by promotion actions, which will be studied in September.
