Governor Alexander Tkachev:

Russia’s Krasnodar able to replace 50% of fruit import to Russia

Krasnodar Territory, a large agricultural region of Russia, is able to replace half of the imports of fruits on a national scale, Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachev said Monday.

“Today, 50 percent of domestic fruits and berries are under cultivation in Kuban. Our producers have been fully serving the needs in fruit cultures of residents and visitors of the region for a long time. However, at the national level, only Kuban, of course, cannot replace all imports. But half of it – it is quite possible,” – the governor’s press service said.

He stressed that the producers of the Krasnodar Territory are all in favour of this idea and are ready “even now to increase the volumes of fruit and berry cultivation.”

On August 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill on economic measures to protect the country’s security. The decree went into effect on August 7 and banned for one year imports of agricultural and food products from the countries that had imposed sanctions on Russia over the Ukrainian crisis. The list includes meat, poultry and milk products as well as fruits and vegetables from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway.
