Alfonso Galvez Caravaca, secretary general of ASAJA Murcia

"The Russian veto can make Morocco and Egypt displace Spain"

ASAJA Murcia stated that the Russian veto on Spain's fruit and vegetables is a business opportunity for competing countries, such as Morocco, that are seeking to consolidate their commercial position in Russia.

In this sense, the agricultural organization noted in a statement that the Alawite king would be travelling to Moscow in autumn, amidst the import crisis.

Alfonso Galvez, secretary general of ASAJA Murcia, considers that "this crisis is very bad for the whole industry, and we are aware that Morocco will exploit this fact to better position themselves in the Russian market and displace our horticultural productions of this market."

"We are confident that the European Union will approve urgent aid, which amounts to 5.252 million Euro for this crisis, as soon as possible. However, to date, they have only convened meetings and have ensured that there will be a rapid response to support the sectors concerned," Galvez added.

According to Galvez Caravaca, "we have to unlock this market as soon as possible, because we run the risk of being displaced by competing countries such as Morocco and Egypt."
