Peru: Piura will export organic bananas to Europe and the United States
The president of Piura's Central Associations of Small Producers of Organic Banana (CEPIBO), Filario Filopu Juarez, said CEPIBO would export a total of 11,000 tons of organic bananas this year, i.e. about 8 or 9 million dollars.
The executive said that 95% of the total shipments (550 containers of 20 tons each) would be sent to different European markets, while the remaining 5% would be sent to the U.S.
He also noted that, as their main customers had been demanding more organic bananas, they hadn't been able to look for new markets to export.
"CEPIBO won't be looking to enter new markets until we have satisfied the demand of our existing customers," he said.
However, he said, they had developed a plan to increase their partners with the aim of meeting demand, but that their admission would "depend on the producer's clear vision of international trade."
