Italy: Delays in artichoke production

The F.lli Micozzi commercial farm recorded a delay in artichoke production. At the moment, the company is working with Roman artichokes and asparagus.

"Artichokes are at least 30 days late. The campaign has just started and we are selling a good quality product - C3 sells well in Lazio, whereas oblong ones also reach Tuscany and Northern Italy. The only problem is caused by the low prices, but the Easter period should settle this.

The company is also testing the Life variety from Vitroplant. "It could open more doors on the market. The colour is darker and productivity is good."

As regards asparagus, there is a slight delay, "but we have only just started, so we cannot complain."

The Roman cauliflower campaign is already over for the company. "We produced less but quality was good and there were no problems caused by the weather."

The produce sold well at the beginning (October-November) but the trend was not as good towards February-early March.
