43.35% of the price goes to distributors

Spain: Tomato prices under analysis

43.35% of the final price of tomatoes goes to distributors (platform and point of sale), while the remaining 56.65% is shared between growers and horticultural production centres, according to data provided by Andalusia's Prices and Markets Observatory.

Analysing the price of tomatoes grown in Andalusia and sold in supermarkets, hypermarkets and discount retailers in Spain, the total cost is of 1.26 Euro/kilo, according to the latest data published by the Observatory.

Of the total cost, 57.93% corresponds to growers and horticultural production centres; 0.73 Euro from the total 1.26 Euro/kilo. For their part, distributors bear 42.07% of the cost, 0.53 Euro/kilo.

Taking into account a retail price (no tax included) of 1.43 Euro/kilo, the net profit for each member of the chain would be of 0.08 Euro/kilo for growers and horticultural production centres and of 0.09 Euro/kilo for supermarkets and other retailers.
