"Natalie Snijers: "Volumes increase, now focussing on export"

Auction Hoogstraten turns out specialties

Auction Hoogstaten presented themselves in a different way at Fruit Logistica.
The stand was expanded by a 'Specialty Street' where visitors could admire several specialities. There was a rotating exhibit to present their products. Natalie Snijers and Steven Snels are responsible for the specialities sales.

Natalie explains that nowadays, the biggest products are Bellino, Cherrystar and Torrito. "Those three products have the highest volumes. There is an important expansion in our specialities this year. That is why we wanted to present them in a special way at Fruit Logistica."

Increasing acreage
Natalie said that a year ago, the acreage amounted 27 hectares. "This year there was an big increase, to 44 hectares." Auction Hoogstraten has a patent on several varieties. "We only want to select the best varieties with the greatest taste. For example, we have a new variety for the Toma D'or range called Rivolo and for Coeur de Boeuf the Tomawaks variety."

Natalie explains that they have to customize some of their products, when it comes to specialities. "Every client has their own desires, regarding packaging. We are very flexible and we are developing innovations on a regular basis. Often packaging developed at the growers through dialogue with the client." Most products were for Belgium's local market during the start of its 'specialty-period'. "Volumes are increasing and we are focussing on export. In the next few months, we will be focussing on our specialities and packaging."
