Fruit Logistica 2014, Friday 7th February

EU: Fruit and veg industry speeds up roll-out GS1 location-identification

During the global working session Fresh Produce Standards in September 2012 a European Fruit & Vegetable Working Group was formed. This group, GS1 in Europe - Fruit & Vegetable GS1 standards deployment in Europe, was set up to ensure a harmonised implementation of the GS1 System in the Fruit & Vegetable industry. During Fruit Logistica 2014 the second major Guideline for use of GS1 standards, Global Location Number (GLN), in fruit & vegetable industry will be released with a meeting at the Booth of Frug I Com on Friday 7th February at 11.00 h.

The fruit and vegetable business is a global business with suppliers from all over the world, which need to make efficient trade. With the release of this guideline the Fruit and Vegetable industry takes the next step in uniform identification for locations by releasing the GS1 in Europe – Fruit & Vegetable Supply Chain Location Identification Guideline. The use of GLN is independent of your company’s role in the supply chain. GLN is more and more used in business for tracking & tracing and certification (e.g. GlobalG.A.P., Q&S). Not only in business, but also governmental agencies have started to use GLN as unique global identification key (e.g. KCB - Dutch Quality Control Agency). Especially for board members and other managers a separate publication of this European group is available. It’s called the Value Proposition. This publication emphasizes the added value for Fruits & Vegetable industry by using GS1 standards in the target market Europe.
