Social responsibility important for Vietnamese dragon fruit producer

Based in Vietnam, Hoang Hau Dragon Fruit has been developing as the biggest grower and exporter of dragon fruit since 1988. In that time, the company has expanded its initial 3 hectares of land into hundreds of hectares that are GlobalGAP certified.

The company is a pioneer in the field of growing dragon fruit on commercial scale. They have made a great impact on thinking and vision of many poor provincial farmers when they decided to change their current crops to cultivating dragon fruit to improve their incomes. The founder of Hoang Hau has helped to instruct those farmers how to grow and take better care of the trees for a high productivity. As a result of that progress, dragon fruit has become one of the most valuable trading fruits in the country since then. This has created jobs and enriched tens of thousand local residents in the area.

Hoang Hau Dragon Fruit has been working with GlobalGAP system since 2007 in their farms and packing houses, which means they are able to guarantee food safety. Every shipment exporting to overseas is inspected carefully for quality and monitored strictly for residues of pesticide and chemical by an experienced QC team.
If there is a problem occurring during production or any phase in the supply chain, the company has a traceability system to work with stakeholders to find the cause and the best solution. Thanks to this system, they can react quickly and effectively to the incidents and deal with the action plan accordingly.

Another of the company's aims, is to improve working conditions for every employee in the company and to reward them appropriately for the work performed. This is why the company felt it was important to join the BSCI.

Apart from BSCI, joining SEDEX enables the company to focus on the environment, health, safety, also working conditions and doing business ethically.
