Carrefour expected to enter Armenian market mid-2014

Europe's largest supermarket chain owner Carrefour will establish its presence in the Armenian market in the middle of next year. Meeting with Armenian media, Reynaud spoke about several projects that France, as number one Western investor in Armenia, plans to carry out in the South Caucasus country in 2014.

Plans for Carrefour’s imminent arrival in Armenia have been discussed since late last year. The move has largely been regarded as a means to spur competition in Armenian retail trade.

Still in February Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that his government was interested in Carrefour’s entering the local market.

“This will have a number of positive phenomena, first of all for the citizens, it will promote a more competitive field, institutions of new types, formation of infrastructure and the export of Armenian products.”
