German region the Pfalz remains important vegetable growing area

Over 560 companies grow vegetables such as radishes, cauliflower, lettuce, asparagus, carrots, onions and spinach on 19,000 hectares of land in the German region the Pfalz nowadays, mainly for the fresh market. This makes the Pfalz still one of the main closed vegetable cultivation areas in Germany.

Vegetables for frozen processing (Frosta) are also grown in the Pfalz, as well as herbs for drying. 85 organic companies also grow on an area of 750 hectares. The total turnover in the Pfalz is estimated to be around 350 million Euro.
