Robotics suitable for greenhouses
In order to give a boost to innovation in Greenport, the European Union has put up 1.9 million Euros, towards the building of six innovation and demonstration centres (IDC's) situated in Westland, Lansingerland and Greenport Duin & Bollenstreek.
The Techno Centre greenhouse is located at Demokwekerij Westland and the Robotics IDC was officially opened on October 2, 2013. Demokwekerij Westland has taken on the commitment to work together with TU Delft, TNO and businesses which have invested €800,000 for this project which looks at how robotics and mechatronics can be implemented in greenhouses.
This project, which should run for three years, is supported by a grant of €400,000, from the ERDF program 'opportunities for the west'.
This month will see the first cross-over event held in the Techno Centre Greenhouse together with parties who are involved in mechatronics and robotics. Companies are invited to attend from various sectors including medical, aerospace, offshore and the agricultural sector.
