In Italy, the PO mainly sells to wholesalers (70% of mushrooms), the rest is sent to the canning industry, retailers and abroad.
"Except for button mushrooms, we were affected by the many mushrooms harvested in Eastern Europe. Those who buy field, oyster or poplar mushrooms choose the foreign produce because of lower prices (€4/5 per kilo) despite the lack of taste - it was harvested days or even weeks earlier - the presence of flies or the fact that it comes from territories that are not exactly uncontaminated."

The price of mushrooms does not reflect the work we do to check, cultivate, harvest, store and transport them in compliance with certifications. At present, we are being inspected for the GlobalGAP certification. If I think about everything that we do, which has become normal throughout the years, I realise how much we pay attention to the quality of our mushrooms," concludes Loredana Alberti.
