Netherlands major producer and exporter of processed vegetables
In recent years, green beans and peas already showed a significant downward trend in both the acreage and production (see graphs). The processing of mushrooms, by contrast, has grown in recent years.
Much international trade by the Netherlands
Netherlands is not only an important trading partner for fresh produce, in processed fruit the Netherlands are also among the toppers. In export of processed vegetables, the Netherlands take third place after China and Belgium. Dutch import is also high. Exports of processed vegetables from all countries in 2012 had a value of $ 25 billion, of which China 6 and Belgium more than $ 1.5 billion and the United States and the Netherlands both about 1.2 billion dollars.
2012, record exports
Last year, exports of processed vegetables from the Netherlands reached a record value of respectively. 0.91 and 1.35 billion. With processed fruit, frozen produce is also the most important, but mushrooms and other preserves are also widely shipped (Table 2). In terms of volume, 2012 was also a record year for exports of processed fruit, especially mushrooms and canned foods. The export volume of frozen product remained behind compared to previous years.
Export to many countries
In regard to the export of processed vegetables, Germany was the main buyer (in 2012) with a share of almost 30%. France and Belgium are numbers two and three (see chart above).
