Mexico: Banana firm Chanitos seeks to strengthen its brand
Chanitos is a Mexican banana producer and trader, devoted mostly to exporting through its agreements with Dole and Chiquita and another part to the domestic market. It owns 250 hectares of plantations, with production volumes in constant growth, and it also purchases fruit from other producers.
In addition to the part under contract with Dole and Chiquita, the company trades bananas under its own brands, Chanitus Premium and Chanitos Classic, in both the US and the domestic market. Around 3 to 5 containers are exported weekly under the Chanitos brand and 8 to 10 under Chiquita/Dole. In the domestic market, the firm moves around 20 containers per week.
In Mexico, the company acts as wholesaler from the Central Market in Mexico City. From there, it prepares and supplies bananas to wholesalers in other parts of the country, as well as fresh bananas to convenience stores under the brand "Chanitos Snack", which arrive at their peak in ripeness, ready for consumption. Additionally, Chanitos is preparing the launch of its new line of banana chip products.
Regarding markets and promotion, Orlando Olmedo, co-founder and General Director of Chanitos, explains that the company is in the process of obtaining the GlobalGAP certification, "which will allow us to improve our quality to satisfy the most demanding markets."
Chanitos is open to negotiations with potential clients from any worldwide market. Its main goal is to continue growing in the area of production to meet Dole and Chiquita's demand, while seeking to gain a stronger foothold for the brand Chanitos in the international market.
