Switzerland: Less apples expected

The Swiss fruit producers expect the apple and pear harvest not to differ greatly from last year, as announced on the German website Gabot.de. The Swiss fruit association SOV expect that this year with 133,000 tons, 6% less apples will be harvested than in 2012. However, the pear harvest is expected to increase by 8% to 21,000 tons. According to quantity, the most widely grown fruit varieties in 2013 are the apple variety Gala followed by Golden Delicious.

At the moment in Switzerland there are still 3,505 tons of eating apples from last season's harvest in storage. With that the stock is 1,274 tons smaller than last year at about this time. The largest stock is of Golden Delicious with 2,662 tons.
