Growers in Poland harvested a total of 127,000 tonnes of raspberries last year and have achieved a new record harvest, reports the German website Proplanta.de. The country was the largest raspberry producer in the entire world last year.
In the meantime, the Polish Central Agency for statistics shared that the harvest quantities in 2012 were 7.7% higher than in 2011. However, Poland has been one of the largest producers of raspberries in the world for years.
According to fruit growing experts, the high quality of the Polish raspberry is to do with a combination of three different factors: optimal climate conditions, ideal soil and modern technological production practices. The varieties used, the 'Poljana' and 'Polska', are of decisive importance. Their shoots bear fruit within the first year.
