Simplot call for GM potato approval

Idaho based Simplot has called on the federal government to approve genetically modified potatoes. The news has been announced by the USDA. If the go ahead is given the potato would be the only GM potato in the market.

Simplot has branded them Innate potatoes. The company figured out how to use existing potato DNA to design a spud that’s less prone to dark spots.

This is not the first time such a thing has been attempted - a similar call from Monsanto was eventually discontinued back in the 1990s, after a backlash from McDonald's consumers. Simplot is also a long time supplier of McDonalds.
