‘Plukkruidje’ combines taste, health and convenience
Driessen is no stranger to herbs. His grandmother used to experiment with fresh nettles and other interesting plants. After coming into contact with more herbs during a nine-year stint in China, Driessen decided to make a living growing a range of special varieties. "It was a learning curve, full of trial-and-error."
Plukkruidje initially started marketing herbal tea. "Fresh mint tea has long been very popular in the hospitality industry. However, there are many more mint species than the usual home-garden and kitchen variety." The enterprise now sports five variants: ‘Good gut feeling’ with Peppermint, Lemon Balm and Fennel Herb; ‘Relax’ with Apple Mint, Nightcap and lemon balm; ‘Natural boost’ with Lemon Thyme, Peppermint and Echinacea; ‘Winter Rest’ with Spearmint and real sage; and ‘Morning fresh’ with Moroccan mint condition, Apple Mint and Immortality Herb. "The focus is on flavour, but the blends contain all useful substances for our health." The blends have a soft and natural taste and contain no caffeine.
The products gradually expanded and were well received in the hospitality industry. Plukkruidje got a prominent place at the North Sea Jazz festival and was tested on fairs of Grocery wholesaler in Rotterdam.
