Ukraine: Fruit yields not affected by adverse weather

Despite abnormal weather conditions in late March the vast majority of fruit plantings in Ukraine are in good according to Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

"Weather anomalies had no significant influence on the future harvest of fruit trees, berries and vines. Thus, according to the Institute of Horticulture NAASU, most fruit and berry plantings in Ukraine are currently in good and satisfactory condition. And apple, pear, peach, cherry, plum and sweet cherry flower buds’ small damage doesn’t cause worry," the minister said.

The greatest extent of the damage can be seen in certain Southern area and in the Crimea, where apricot production may be reduced by 20%.

There are no indications that there will be shortages of any type of fruit on the domestic market.
